THE GHILLIE DHU - The Myths & Legends Art Print

The Ghillie Dhu lived in the birch wood at Loch a Druing, ower by Gairloch. Dark-haired, shy as anything, dressed in moss and leaves he'd made himsel. He kept away fae grown folk entirely and naebody minded, because he wisnae bothering anybody.

Then a wee lassie called Jessie Macrae got lost in that wood efter dark. He found her, kept her warm aw night, and walked her hame in the morning.

And here's the bit that spoils it. Some years later a group ae lairds went intae that same wood wi guns, fur the sport ae it, tae hunt him. Naebody's seen him since.

The kindest thing in Scottish folklore, and we chased it oot the wood.
